Tackling kids’ sport safety with Straight Smiles Orthodontics

February 21st, 2012

Let’s face it: sports-related injuries are common among children, let alone teens with braces. That’s why Straight Smiles Orthodontics is helping spread the word that many facial sports injuries can be prevented simply by reminding your kids to wear mouth guards.

Dr. Rafaill provides mouth guards to all of our patients and wants to remind you:

Orthodontic mouth guards are different than traditional mouth guards. Orthodontic mouth guards allow the teeth to move with orthodontic treatment thus not hindering our patients treatment progress since the teeth move with any type of orthodontic treatment on a daily basis. The most important thing about a mouth guard is just that, it guards against any possible damaging blows to the face and teeth! Our most important asset to a smile are our teeth! Protect them!

Braces are fun with Dr. Rafaill!

Braces are Fun!

Braces are Colorful!

Braces are Cool!

Braces are tooth jewelry that are constantly changing!

Our patients are always comparing their colors amongst their friends and trying to get the coolest mix of colors. Years ago the only color that was available was Silver! Nowadays we have over 50 colors to choose from every time our patients come see us!

Besides being colorful, the braces are so easy to put on, our patients relate them to “teeth stickers”!
Braces are also so much faster than once before!

Just think you can have that “Dream Smile” in a relatively short period of time, all the while having a great experience along the way!

Thank you,
Dr. Nicholas Rafaill

From Straight Smiles Orthodontics: The best patient is the compliant patient!

February 7th, 2012

At Straight Smiles Orthodontics we have seen many patients over the years and the patients that seem to be the most satisfied are those patients whose treatment is completed before their estimated completion date. We can usually finish our treatment 4-6 months earlier than originally predicted if our patients are compliant.

Compliance usually means eating the correct foods so as not to break any braces off which can delay treatment. If our patients are directed to wear elastics this can lead to earlier removal date if done well. If we see patients on a regular basis this will also make treatment progress much more efficiently.

Most of our patients have been educated at the practice to instill great compliance, thus most if not all are GREAT patients!
